Three Little Pigs - Where Fairy Tale Takes a Back Seat @ Takashimaya Ngee Ann City [Singapore]

The childhood story on the three little pigs left such a deep impression on me that i know it's never going to be a straw or wooden house for me when i grow up; not that i have much a choice when over 70% of the population in Singapore lives in concrete public housing.

Of course, i am not going to discuss with you about the dynamics of local housing today. Instead, i am going to share with you about the three little pigs restaurant. Sorry to be popping the bubble but this dining establishment's signature meat is their pork chop!

I know it sounded morbid although for a pork lover, i am not exactly sympathetic! Just for the record, this recommendation came from Louise, my younger sister. Appended below were the dishes we indulged in that night.

Longan Longan Drink
Your typical ice cold drink filled to the brim with longans that's an immediate thirst quencher on a hot day. I like it although my heart continues to be drawn towards the cheng thng at Ye Lai Xiang and Xue Hua Fei.

Signature Pork Chop on Rice
I noted the display on the menu but i am still appalled when this was served to me! Presentation obviously was not the top priority and this appeared, to put it in simple term, similar to a plate of chap chye png (mixed vegetables rice) i could purchase from a food court.

Thankfully, the specially blended spice marination was delectable and reminded me of the grilled honey pork chop i had in Chatuchak Market! It was a bit dry and the juiciness kicked in only towards the stretch where the fat was. Most perfect was in fact the sunny side up with a sprinkling of sesame seeds.

Signature Pork Chop Vermicelli
Looking like a bowl of white pasta, it's the same hand-pounded pork chop sitting on a nest of vermicelli (thick bee hoon).

The savoury house gravy added much needed flavour to the plain vermicelli and surprisingly good. Pork chop was more tender yet less flavourful. If only there's more consistency to its juiciness and flavourfulness.

Forest Mushroom Soup
Full of the texture that i always enjoyed from a good bowl of mushroom soup, this was creamy and rich with just one issue; it was a tad too salty.

Casserole of Roasted Farmed Chicken
With a chef-recommended sign, my sister decided on the only chicken dish we had on our table. I was expressing my disapproval as the three little pigs would hence be reduced to two! The two souls would be deprived of their last sibling when they meet in heaven.

Joke aside, we were totally sold on the tomato-based vegetable stew that would be a godsend in cold weather! The chicken meat was succulent with thin yet well marinated chicken skin. Even though I couldn't help her with the meat, i was all excited to eat the yummy skin for her.
